Project Updates

June 1, 2021 - Selective demolition is continuing this week. Masonry opening infill has begun. Rink perimeter slab is being poured. Underground plumbing is occurring.

May 18, 2021 - Selective demolition is still continuing this week. Slab removal in the Ice Rink and perimeter is still in progress.

May 11, 2021 - The construction fence around the Ice Arena was installed on May 6th and 7th. We are still in the demolition phase of the project. The concrete floor slab demo occurred recently. Other demolition includes HVAC, plumbing, electrical. mechanical through next week. Updates will continue as they become available.

April 15, 2021 - The Birmingham City Commission approved the contract with CE Gleeson Constructor, Inc. to serve as the General Contractor for this upcoming work. The immediate next steps include some of the following tasks:
- Removing the rink contents
- Performing other interior pre-construction work

January 11, 2021 - The City of Birmingham awarded the Birmingham Ice Arena Architectural and Engineering Services project to Andrus Architecture in the amount not to exceed $288,900.00. Ice Arena improvements will include the following:
1) Locker Room Expansion and Remodel of Existing Locker Rooms
2) Adding a Fifth Locker Room and Team Locker Room
3) New Observation Area and Meeting Room Space
4) New Concession Area Upgrades
